Commission High-Quality Services

The Labour Party will fight to secure the very best healthcare for every resident of Hartlepool, both now and for the next generation. Working with partners in the Clinical Commissioning Group we will direct policy and funding toward ensuring continuous improvements in the quality and outcomes from the services that are commissioned.

Quality services must be clinically effective, safe and take account of patient experience, which ensures people are treated according to their individual needs, compassion, dignity and respect.

To do this we will listen to the voices of patients, base decisions on evidence and take swift action when concerns are raised.

Challenge Poor Care

The health and social care sector in Hartlepool must be a place where the rights and dignity of patients come first and where all staff can raise concerns without fear of reprisals. When poor care happens we will take the strongest possible action to put it right for the benefit of Hartlepool people.

Tackle Social Isolation

Age UK estimates that more than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member. This puts their health at risk. Ensuring older people have links to their local community and can access local services is of paramount importance in tackling this issue. We will strengthen these community services so they reach every part of our town.

Review Drug and Alcohol Prevention Schemes

We need a more joined-up approach to tackling the scourge of substance abuse that works across stakeholders and policy areas. Pouring funds into treatment, while not tackling the causes, such as access to cheap booze and illicit narcotics, does not make sense. We need are a multi-pronged approach that is properly planned and effectively delivered.

Protect our Leisure Centre, free swims and sports facilities

Through all the vicious austerity that the Tories have inflicted upon Hartlepool we have fought to keep access to high-quality leisure facilities because we know the value these have for Hartlepool people. Supporting healthy lifestyles through exercise is the best, most cost-effective way of improving quality of life and we will never allow those services to disappear, including our free swim holiday schemes and sports fields.

Fighting For A Healthier Hartlepool

Last year our town was one of only six nationwide to see average life expectancy actually fall. This is totally unacceptable. We need better services and more investment to ensure local people have the quality of life they deserve.
